Stills Gallery, Cockburn Street, Edinburgh
As part of the events programme around the Gunnie Moberg & Margaret Tait exhibition ‘The Days Never Seem The Same’ Stills Gallery has teamed up with Orkney writer, and friend of Gunnie, Duncan McLean to bring the sound of the North Isles to the gallery.
Readings by Harry Josephine Giles, Alison Miller, Duncan McLean, Robert Alan Jamieson and Gerda Stevenson
Forget selkies and St Magnus. This is a rare chance to hear the sound of contemporary Orkney, in the varied voices of three Orcadian writers: poet Harry Josephine Giles, novelist Alison Miller, and short story writer Duncan McLean.
All three are associated with the ground-breaking Abersee press, as is Shetlander Robert Alan Jamieson, who has given voice to the northern isles in novels, poems and plays for more than 30 years.
Jamieson (above) and McLean (below) were the subject of portraits by Gunnie Moberg, as was actor and poet Gerda Stevenson (top image), who also starred in Margaret Tait’s feature film Blue Black Permanent.
Stevenson’s recent collection, Quines, includes a tribute to Moberg and to Tait, and a host of other notable Scottish women.
Tickets £7.00
Event generously supported by Highland Park Single Malt Whisky.
