Neolithic clogs

In Stone Built there is an aerial photograph by Gunnie Moberg of Knap of Howar in Papa Westray. It reminds me of Gunnie’s clogs.

I have started to come across some of the prints from the book Stone Built. This is a beautiful little book produced by Stromness Books and Prints in 1979. In the front of the book is a quote by the poet Hugh MacDiarmid:

‘There are plenty of ruined buildings in the world

but no ruined stones’.

Stone would become a feature of the artists’ work and in 1987 she would publish Stone, an artists book with poet George Mackay Brown.

Colin Hamilton, publisher of Stone with Kulgin Duval,  has written about the book here
